(This is a recurring installment on how to turn steeply priced high fashion into affordable non-fug look-alikes)
This week in "STEEP TO CHEAP" I'll be showing all you fellow bros how to turn British designer satyenkumar's Spring/Summer mens collection into an awesome outfit you can rock all summer long!
The whole collection is quite charming, but I was particularly captivated by the floppy hat concept. It's the perfect way to top off an ensemble that already flows free with the spirit of a warm "Summer's night." Am I right? Check 'em out!

How are they walking straight? Are these hats see-through?

Let's take a closer look...

Doesn't look like it.
Wait
Are those rope sandals?!

They are!
Yes indeed, my fashionistas, tis rope sandalias, ropa de sandals, however you say it, these runway models are wearing rope as shoes. Now I won't get into whooooo *wink* *wink* started wearing rope sandals first but I think those who saw me last summer (or the summer before that... or the summer before that...) may have an idea.
ANYWAYS
Let's take this outfit from
"STEEEEEEP TO CHEEEAAAP!"
Check it out:

Blazer: Navy blue pinstripe from H&M $35
Shorts: Pleated, navy blue from (unknown) ~$25
Shoes: Rope Sandals from hippie at Grass Roots Festival $20
Hat: Black Fidel cap from H&M coupled with decorative bandana $9
Total: $89.00
Estimated Savings: $3745.00
My favorite party of this outfit is definitely the hat. Sometimes you just gotta improvise when you're on a budget! I didn't already have a bucket hat, so I made my own with a Fidel cap and a bandana I had lying around. I was so happy how this turned out. The bandana's paisley motif really brings a new vibrancy to the outfit that screams, "It's summer and I'm ready to party, at possibly a gay bar, depending how much is in my bank account!"

There ya have it! Steep to Cheap! It was that easy (and fun too). Now get out there and do it for yourself. And if you come up with any outfits that you'd like to share on our site, please email us at: andlookgooddoingit@gmail.com
Oh and girls, I won't leave you hanging. I made a layout of items mostly made of rope, or at least look like rope, that you can rock all summer long too!
Sorbet Rope Shirt, $225
Rope Oxford Blazer, $550

Can you speak to the odor of the rope sandals? Do they collect stench / grow mold more easily than leather? In case of emergency can they unravel to be used as actual rope? Do they cause rope burn?
ReplyDeleteFor now, I'll stick to jellies...
Hi b,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your questions. Rope sandals can be washed in the washing machine just like any other part of your wardrobe. That's the good part. The bad part is, if you don't wash them, the stench can definitely build, faster than leather, and start smelling like trash. So keep 'em clean!
Normally, keeping your rope sandals in one piece is the goal. If they start to unravel all you need is a lighter to melt the glue and rope back together. But I suppose in emergencies they could come in handy as one long strand! LOL
They do not cause rope burn; they're surprisingly comfortable.
ok that collage is evidence that you are losing your mind. last yr neil wasnt allowed to keep the rope sandals in the house because the stench was sooooo bad
